What is Real Time Information (RTI) for PAYE?

Real Time Information, also known as RTI, is a system introduced by HMRC (His Majesty's Revenue and Customs) that requires UK employers to submit payroll data every time they pay their employees, rather than just once at the end of the tax year. Under RTI, details such as employee pay, income tax, National Insurance contributions, and other deductions must be reported to HMRC on or before each payday through a Full Payment Submission (FPS). This real-time reporting framework ensures that HMRC always has up-to-date information, helping to improve the accuracy of tax codes, reduce fraud, and support timely benefits payments.
